Your invitation list is miles long, but you want to personalize every email with a unique name. Don't waste an entire afternoon copying and pasting. Only politicians have that kind of time. Instead use data tags, placeholders for information stored within Cvent that can change depending on who is viewing the webpage or email.

Within the HTML Editor in Classic Surveys

1 Access the HTML Editor.
The HTML Editor can be accessed throughout the application by clicking the <HTML> button, usually found beneath text boxes intended for description.

The Editor is also built into the HTML Email tab. To access this tab, select your event. Click Emails in the teal navigation bar. If applicable, choose a targeted list. Select a template. Click the HTML Email tab in the middle of the screen, and click Edit.

2 Insert the data tag. Click the Insert tab, then User-added image in the Content section. The Data Tag Selection page will open.

Use the dropdown to select a data tag category. Each one lists a range of related data tags. For example, the fields in a contact's record such as name, title, and company can be found in the "Contact" category.

Under the Action column, click Insert.

Click Close, then Save. If the HTML Editor appeared in a separate window, be sure to save on the original page as well.

Within the Survey or Email Designer in New Surveys

1 Access the Survey Designer. Begin by selecting your survey. Hover over Design and, under Customize, click Survey Pages.

Or access the Email Designer. Begin by selecting your survey. Hover over Send & Share and, under Emails, click Survey Emails. Click on your emails, then click Design Email.

2 Open the list of data tags. For your survey, in the top left of the canvas, click the dropdown, and select the page or survey you want to add data tags to.

Click the widget on the canvas that you want to update. Additional options will appear to the right of the canvas. In the text fields, click the User-added image icon.

The data tag list will open to the left. Search for a specific tag by entering keywords in the search box. Or use the dropdown at the top to choose a data tag category, then browse the list.
