Can't find a data tag that suits your needs? You can always create your own. Custom data tags come in two varieties, content block and single text tags, and each type can be account-wide or event-specific.

NOTE: These instructions are for the New Experience. To follow these steps, click Try Now at the top of your account to enable a partial preview, then talk to your Account Team to make the complete switch. If you're still using the Classic Experience, reference this article instead.
Creating a Simple Text Tag

1 Access the Custom Tag Details page. Click the  icon in the top-right, then select Admin from the dropdown. From the left-hand navigation, click General, then Custom Data Tags.

2 Create the tag. Click Create Custom Tag, then ensure Simple Text is selected. Enter a name and data tag code. Whatever you type in the Value textbox is what will appear when the data tag populates.

Fill in Name, Code, and values for custom data tag

Once you're done, click Save.

NOTE: Event-specific simple text tags can be added in Marketing > Custom Data Tags.
Creating a Content Block Tag

Content block tags allow for more versatility with a much roomier 5,000 character limit and the ability to contain links, images, and even other data tags. Use them to automate entry of content you routinely reuse throughout multiple events, emails, or registration paths (e.g. speaker biographies, disclaimers, or cancellation policies).

1 Access the Custom Tag Wizard.
Click the  icon in the top-right, then select Admin from the dropdown. From the left-hand navigation, click General, then Custom Data Tags.

2 Create the tag. Click Create Custom Tag, then ensure Content Block is selected. Enter a name and data tag code.

Since a content block can be inserted in both HTML and plain text emails, you will need to define two versions. Whatever you type in the Value textbox is what will appear when the data tag populates. Click HTML... to access the HTML Editor. Type out the content that you want to display in the tag, then click OK.

Click HTML to access the HTML editor

NOTE: Custom JavaScript that is entered in an HTML content block data tag is not supported in Flex events. Use a code widget instead.

Click the Copy from HTML Values button, and the text you entered in the HTML Editor will be pulled into the Plain Text value. Images and links will not appear.

Once you're done, click Save.

NOTE: Event-specific content block tags can be added in Marketing > Custom Data Tags.

Inserting Custom Data Tags Within the Site Designer

1 Access the Site Designer. Begin by selecting your event. To add custom data tags to registration, go to the left-hand navigation, click Registration, then Registration Process. For the website, go to the left-hand navigation, click Website, then Event Website.

2 Add a widget to the canvas. Click Build to the right of the canvas. Drag and drop a widget onto the canvas. In the Configuration Options to the right of the canvas, customize your text in the text box.

Or, edit an existing text widget. Click on the text you want to edit, and additional options will appear to the right.

3 Open the list of data tags. To the right of the canvas, place your cursor where you want to insert the data tag in the text box. Click User-added image to open the list of data tags.

4 Insert the data tag. The data tag list will open to the left. From the dropdown, select Account Custom Tags or Event Custom Tags. Then click on the custom tag you want to add and choose your custom tag code from the dropdown.

Once you're done, click Save to preserve your changes and continue working or Publish to make these changes available to invitees.
