Managing money is hard enough without having to worry about giving it back. By implementing a refund policy, registrants who paid online in full will be automatically refunded if they cancel, saving you an extra step. Without a refund policy, registrants who cancel will not receive an automatic refund. Unfortunately, you'd still need to manually refund these registrants, as well as those who paid offline, the old fashioned way.

1 Access the Fees page. Begin by selecting your event. Hover over Event Details, and under Pricing, click Fees. Select the item type from the dropdown. All of your items that have a fee associated to them will appear. Click Edit.

2 Add a refund policy. Click Create Refund Policy... next to the item you want to add a policy to. Establish how the refund will be calculated. Your options include as an amount, a percentage, or a cancellation fee. Fill out the deadline and the amount. In the example below, registrants get a $100 refund if they cancel by the end of the month.

Once you're finished, click OK.

3 Add another refund option, if necessary. If you want to create a tiered refund policy so that if registrants cancel by a specified date they receive a refund, but if they cancel at a later date they receive a lower refund, add another refund option onto the existing policy.

Click User-added image next to the refund policy you just created. Then click Add Refund under the existing refund policy.

Fill out the deadline and the amount. In the example below, registrants are charged a $75 cancellation fee if they cancel by April 17. But, if they cancel after that up until July 31, they'll be charged a $100 cancellation fee.

To add more options, click Add Refund, then repeat the steps. When you're finished, click OK.

Don't forget to Save. Repeat this process for all applicable fees.

NOTE: If an invitee that took advantage of early bird pricing unregisters, Cvent compares the maximum refund amount in the early bird fee itself with the refund policy at the time of cancellation, and refunds the smaller amount.
