Group Registration allows you to register more than one person at a time with a single transaction. Each person is considered their own registrant. This feature is most commonly used in events where invitees will likely pay for colleagues with an organization's credit card.

Guest Registration records who your invitees are planning on bringing along. Guests can be free or paid for by those registering them. Registrants and their guests are always attached. This feature is most commonly used in events where attendees can bring their families.

Review the charts below to determine which option meets your needs. You can find them by hovering over Website & Registration, and, under Registration, clicking Registration Settings for Classic events, and Registration Process for Flex events.


 
Before Registration  
With these features . . .Group RegistrationGuest Registration
Is contact information pre-populated?Yes, but only if the option is enabled in the Identification & Security tab. No
Will pre-assigned contact types affect registration?YesNo
Will everyone be validated when using private registration?YesNo
 
 
 
During Registration

Are optional items available to everyone?YesNo
Are duplicate registrations prevented?YesYes, as long as the options that allow guests to be registrants and registrants guests are unchecked in the Guests tab.
Is partial payment still an option?NoYes, as long as Group Registration isn't turned on as well.

 
  
After Registration  
With these features . . .Group RegistrationGuest Registration
Are changes updated in my Address Book?YesNo, guests who are not already contacts can be added to the Address Book, but, existing contacts will not be updated.
Does each registration generate a unique payment record?YesNo, any fees charged to the guest are included in the registrant's payment.
Is everyone added to an invitation list?YesNo, but emails for guests can be created.
Can everyone still modify their registration?Yes, as long as Group Registrant is checked in the Groups tab.No, guests rely on those who registered them to make modifications on their behalf.
Can everyone still unregister?Yes, as long as "The group members" is checked in the Groups tab.No, guests lack the ability to unregister themselves. Unregistering the primary registrant will unregister all their guests.
