It's best to have a record when money's involved. Since you can charge invitees for them, an optional session can't be deleted once someone registers for it. But they can be cancelled by following the steps below.
 

1 Email the registrants. Registrants aren't automatically informed when a session is cancelled. You'll need to create a session email to let them know. When sending the email, don't forget to select the cancelled session in the Associated Sessions section.
 
NOTE: If the session emails are not displaying, submit a case in the Cvent Community and request to have the feature enabled.

2 Cancel an optional session. Begin by selecting your event. Hover over Event Details, and under Agenda Items, click Sessions. Click the name of the session you want to cancel.

Hover over Actions, click Cancel Session, then Confirm.

 
NOTE: Don't see this option? Your event is not in Active status, and therefore, the session cannot be cancelled. However, if the status is in Pending or Test Mode, you may delete the session instead.

Once cancelled, the session will no longer display on your registrants' agendas. If you would like to view the cancelled session for a registrant, go to Invitee Management > Manage > Invitees & Registrants and select the invitee record. On the Agenda tab, the cancelled session will appear.
 
NOTE:  If you cancelled the session before emailing its registrants, you can still notify them by sending an email through Reporting section.

3 Refund the registrants, if necessary. Registrants who have paid for the session are going to want their money back. Those who paid online, in full, during registration will automatically be refunded, and the refund will be processed 24 hours after cancellation. For everyone else, make sure you manually refund them.
